It was so near yet so far for team India. With six balls to go and 10 runs to get, and with the last man Junaid Khan on strike, victory was within grasp. Fate, it seemed, had other plans, as did Ravichandran Ashwin, who conceded sixes off consecutive balls, and brought the match to an abrupt end, cuing a sudden affection for hockey among millions of Indians and instant disillusionment with cricket and carrom.
