The Champions League T20 (CLT20) is scheduled to begin in just a couple of days. The event, while lacking a build-up, could nonetheless provide for some eye-catching performances. Shiamak Unwalla identifies one player from each team to watch out for.
Faf du Plessis, Chennai Super Kings (CSK): With three centuries and a 96 in his last five international innings, Faf has been in scorching form. The South African run-machine will be eager to carry on his form in CLT20, and provide a few fireworks for CSK in the middle order. Along with the likes of Dwayne Smith, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina, and MS Dhoni, the CSK middle order looks a formidable one. Catch the complete schedule of CLT20 2014 here
Jason Holder, Barbados Tridents: The lanky medium pacer has been on an impressive run recently, both for the West Indies and his Caribbean Premier League (CPL) side the Tridents. It is his batting that makes him an X-factor, as he used his immense reach and long handle to cart the ball away even while batting up the order. If he can replicate his CPL form, the Tridents will be at an immediate advantage.

JP Duminy, Cape Cobras: One of the best batsmen in the T20 format, Duminy is a part of perhaps one of the strongest sides in CLT20 2014. With the likes of Hashim Amla, Justin Kemp, Justin Ontong and Richard Levi also in the side, the Cobras are not short on international experience. But they will look to Duminy to provide both stability and brisk scoring toward the latter part of the innings. The fact that he has not had a very good tour of Zimbabwe will add to his hunger to do well.
Robin Uthappa, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): The orange-cap holder of IPL 2014, Uthappa forced his way back into reckoning following some tremendous batting during India’s domestic season. However, he was unable to make the most of his opportunities, failing as a player in India A’s tour Down Under. He will be eager to get back to his big-scoring days while wearing the KKR colours.
Morne van Wyk, Dolphins: The skipper of the side and also their wicketkeeper, van Wyk has been an integral part of the Dolphins’ march to CLT20. He will likely open the innings as well, thus making him the only captain-wicketkeeper-opener of the tournament. He is a seasoned campaigner and could play a serious role in deciding the final outcome of the series.
