The first day of the third and final Test between Pakistan and New Zealand saw a couple of records being broken by the visitors the moment Daniel Vettori took field. Amit Banerjee takes a closer look at the records.

Daniel Vettori created a new record on the morning of the first day of the third Test against Pakistan at Sharjah the moment Misbah-ul-Haq flipped the coin and Brendon McCullum called. Vettori became New Zealand’s most capped Test player, surpassing the record previously held by Stephen Fleming, who had made 111 appearances for the Kiwis. McCullum is third with 90 appearances.

Following is the table representing the cricketers with most appearances for New Zealand:

Vettori also became the New Zealand cricketer with the second-longest career span, with Bert Sutcliffe taking the pole position in this regard. The following table contains the list of cricketers with the longest career-spans for New Zealand.

New Zealand are currently playing Pakistan in the third and final Test at Sharjah, where Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. The series is currently 1-0 in Pakistan’s favour after their crushing 248-run win in the first Test at Abu Dhabi which was followed by a tooth-and-nail draw at Dubai.
