As the tournament goes beyond its half-way stage, another exciting game comes to an end, as hosts Delhi Daredevils (DD) beat new franchise and visitors Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS), in Match 33 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016, at the Ferozshah Kotla Stadium in Delhi on Thursday. It was a much needed win for RPS, as a loss here could have seriously hurt their pursuit of making it to the play-offs. Karun Nair’s healthy knock of 32: Although the DD batsmen did not fire much with the bat, it was Karun Nair, who did fairly well with the bat, scoring a healthy knock of 32, and allowing DD to finish on a modest total. His knock came off 23 deliveries, including five boundaries, along with a strike rate of 139. He was also involved in a good 35-run stand along with Sanju Samson, that allowed them to post the modest total.

Sanju Samson-Karun Nair’s strong 35-run stand: Not just Karun’s knock, it was a strong 35-run stand along with Sanju Samson, that allowed DD to steer towards a decent total on the board and allow them to compete against RPS. Samson contributed 10, while Nair contributed 24 in the stand, as it was their partnership, which helped DD stay in command of their innings. JP Duminy’s steady knock of 34: In what otherwise was a dull day for DD in the batting department, it was their stand-in skipper JP Duminy, who played a steady knock of 34, that allowed DD to post an above average total. His knock came off 32 deliveries, which included a boundary along with a strike rate of 106, which was one of the vital points of the DD’s innings.

Ajinkya Rahane’s match-winning knock of 63: Clearly, the knock of the match, was that Ajinkya Rahane‘s knock that allowed RPS to steer comfortably towards the winning total, and allow RPS to notch up a much needed win in order to stay in contention for the playoffs. His unbeaten knock came off 48 deliveries, including seven boundaries, along with a strike rate of 131.

Usman Khawaja’s stable knock of 30: Not just Rahane, but a debutant, in the form of Australia’s Usman Khawaja, who had been in stellar form in the Big Bash League (BBL) and also in the just concluded ICC World T20 2016, made a head start in his debut game of the cash-rich league, as he scored 30 and allowed RPS to chase down the modest total. His knock came off 27 deliveries, including a couple of boundaries, and a six, along with a strike rate of 111.

Rahane-Khawaja’s crucial 59-run opening stand: It was not just their personal knock, but both Rahane and Khawaja gave a head start as they were involved in a crucial 59-run opening stand that really allowed RPS to stay ahead of the required run rate and made things easier for the incoming batsmen, as they did chase down the modest total with ease. Khawaja contributed 30, while Rahane contributed 29 in the stand.
