Sri Lanka will be facing England in 2nd ODI at Edgbaston on June 24, 2016. The 1st One-Day International (ODI) of the five-match series was a treat to watch as nothing could separate the two sides. They played a thriller of a Tie at Nottingham where Liam Plunkett struck a six off the last ball of Nuwan Pradeep to level the scores. The visitors were on the top of their game after posting a fighting total of 286 and then England’s six batsmen back to the pavilion for 82. A brilliant partnership between Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes brought England back in the game. Sri Lanka made a mistake of loosening their grip in the last match during middle overs. Skipper Angelo Mathews is unlikely to play in the 2nd ODI due to injury. The last time these two sides played at this venue was two years ago. That game is well known for controversial run out of Jos Buttler. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: England vs Sri Lanka, 2nd ODI at Edgbaston

Top Order: Kusal Perera threw his wicket away after settling in. He had a good run against Ireland scoring 135 in the 2nd ODI and will be looking to carry forward that form in today’s game. Danushka Gunathilaka too got out cheaply in the previous match. He scored a half century against Ireland in 2nd ODI. Kusal Mendis too was not impressive in the last game. There is a chance that Seekuge Prasanna might get a chance ahead of Mendis to bat at Edgbaston. He scored a quickfire 95 against Ireland in last ODI.

Middle Order: Dinesh Chandimal got out after playing himself in as he got out for 37. If Mathews does not play he has the responsibility to keep the wickets intact in middle overs. He too scored a century against Ireland and in the Test series against England as well. Prasanna is in good form and he will be expected to provide stability in the middle-orders. In Mathews’ absence Upul Tharanga might bat up the order. He is not in good form but might be given a chance to play in the 2nd ODI. Dasun Shanaka showed how destructive he can be in the recent times both with bat and ball. He will be playing the role of Mathews if he is not fit to play.

Lower Order: Dhananjaya de Silva might get a chance to play in Mathews’ absence. He has a reputation of all-rounder in the domestic circuit. Farveez Maharoof will come in handy too down the order like he did in the first game. Suranga Lakmal is not expected to deliver with the bat along with Nuwan Pradeep.

Sri Lanka have in-form Nuwan Pradeep in the side along with Lakmal who picked up two wickets in the previous game. Shanaka is in good form with the ball too. Maharoof has been rusty in his bowling upon his return after four years but a lot is expected from him in the series. Dhananjaya can bowl as well and share a spell with Prasanna if Mathew does not play at Edgbaston.

Sri Lanka’s Likely XI

Kusal Perera, Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal (wk), Angelo Mathews (c)/Dhananjaya de Silva, Seekuge Prasanna, Upul Tharanga, Dasun Shanaka, Farveez Maharoof, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep

Note: Dinesh Chandimal will be the captain of Sri Lanka in Angelo Mathews’ absence (due to injury)
