Hobart Hurricanes will take on Northern Knights in the ninth game of the ongoing Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) 2014. It will be an important match for both the teams. The Hurricanes cruised to a six-wicket victory against Cape Cobras in their previous match and the Knights too outplayed the Cobras by 33 runs in their previous match as well. Will the Knights continue to remain undefeated or will it be the Hurricanes who’ll flourish? Rajarshi Majumdar takes a look at some of the key battles that are expected to occur during this match.
Kane Williamson-Anton Devcich vs Doug Bollinger-Ben Hilfenhaus: Williamson and Devcich regiestered a record 140-run opening partnership and helped the Knights to post a mammoth total of 206 for five against the Cobras in their last match. Williamson also went on to score a magnificient century from just 49 balls, which included five sixes and eight boundaries. Both their openers are in sublime form and they will be up against the Australian pace duo Bollinger and Hilfenhaus. Bollinger bowls at a good pace and Hilfenhaus is a genuine swing bowler. It will be a good contest to watch.
Tim Southee vs Ben Dunk:Tim Southee has been leading the Knights’ bowling attack right from the start of the tournament. Not only has he picked up wickets within the powerplay overs but also has been super economical. On the other hand, Dunk is a natural strokemaker and he played a crucial innings at the top against the Cobras. What remains to be seen is who gets the better of the other eventually.

Trent Boult vs Aiden Blizzard:Trent Boult has been right on the money from the qualifiers. Rarely has he bowled a bad delivery in this ongoing tournament. He has successfully troubled all the batsmen with his swinging deliveries and he has been bowling well in tandem with Southee upfront. Whereas Blizzard blasted a match-winning 78 runs against the Cobras and guided his side to a six-wicket victory with one over to spare. It will be interesting to see these two players when they face each other.
Shoaib Malik vs Ish Sodhi:Shoaib Malik will look to play a crucial role in the middle-order. He can be very dangerous if he is allowed to get away. He is one of the better players of spin in the Hurricanes side. So, it will be interesting to see how Malik will deal with Ish Sodhi who has bowled well in most of the games in this tournament.
BJ Watling vs Ben Laughlin:Ben Laughlin usually takes care of the middle-overs and he tries to bowl in good areas. His accuracy is not that commendable but he maintains a good line and length. On the other hand, Watling has been an unsung hero. He is technically stronger but he avoids slogging. He came in handy in the later overs against the Cobras and it will be interesting to see who outwits each other in this contest.
