India move on to The Ageas Bowl for the third Test of the 2014 tour following the historic victory at Lord’s. Abhishek Mukherjee looks at the key numbers at one of England’s most recently inducted Test ground.
For years there had been no Test cricket outside the six major grounds (The Oval, Old Trafford, Lord’s, Trent Bridge, Headingley, and Edgbaston, if one goes by the order of induction) barring the solitary match at Bramall Lane in 1902. Things opened up as Riverside became the eighth English ground to host a Test (101 years after the Bramall Lane Test); Sophia Gardens joined the list in 2009; and Rose Bowl (now called as The Ageas Bowl)became the tenth name on the list in 2011.
The contest between England and Sri Lanka remains the only Test played at the ground. No side has ever won a Test at the ground. Let us look at the numbers.
