One of the most successful teams in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will aim to clinch their third title as they play in IPL 2017. KKR have been one of the wisest buyers in the history of IPL and have been among the most talked about franchises since its inception. It finds huge support for both the players and the owner of the franchise, Shahrukh Khan. While there are the usual heroes like captain Gautam Gambhir, Yusuf Pathan, Sunil Narine, Umesh Yadav, Piyush Chawla, Manish Pandey and Robin Uthappa, here are the players who might surprise with their performance. Rovman Powell (West Indies)

Contract worth: INR 3,000,000

Powell is yet another member of that West Indian school of limited-overs all-rounders — men who bowl medium-pace or a notch above that and can hit everything out of the stadium. We have already seen Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo and Dwayne Smith adopt similar roles in IPL, and Powell is all set to fit into their shoes. A man who can score almost a hundred and pick 5 wickets in a 50-over match is sure to be an asset to any team. A powerful hitter who has the fitness to get to the pitch of the ball and an intelligent medium-pacer, Powell, if wisely used, can become a key to KKR’s success in the upcoming season of IPL.

IPL history: Debut

Kuldeep Yadav (India)

Contract worth: INR 4,000,000

Kuldeep stands apart in the crowd, for he bowls Chinaman. He has shown what damage he can inflict in the series against Australia, where he took 4 wickets on debut Test. Of Australians, only Steven Smith and Matthew Wade were able to pick his googly properly in the first innings, though Glenn Maxwell found some runs in the second. His recent exploits are another reason to earn him the trust of his captain while spinner-friendly conditions already work in support of him. One must remember that he can also bat.

IPL history: Picked by Mumbai Indians in 2012 (not played), Picked by KKR in 2016

Sayan Ghosh (India), uncapped

Contract worth: INR 1,000,000

Being touted as a mystery bowler of Indian domestic circuit, Ghosh deserves a place in KKR’s playing XI. KKR have picked quite a few pacers for IPL 10 and a seamer-friendly Eden Gardens may be on the cards, which only indicates success for Ghosh at home — if he plays, that is. Ghosh has so far picked up 19 First-Class wickets in 5 matches, including two 5-fors. He also has 16 wickets each in domestic T20 and List A matches from 10 and 8 matches respectively. These numbers reveal a lot about Ghosh and it will be interesting to see how he performs against big names in high-intensity IPL matches.

IPL history: Debut

Ishank Jaggi (India), uncapped

Contract worth: INR 1,000,000

Ishank Jaggi is one of the most reliable batsmen in the Indian domestic circuit. Jaggi has been the perfect team-man for Jharkhand, playing match-saving knocks down the order. In his last 10 List A matches Jaggi has scored two half-centuries (and a century) and another score in excess of 40.
