Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won their second Indian Premier League (IPL) title by defeating Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the final by three wickets. As the tournament came to an end with that thrilling encounter, Bharath Seervi compiles in-depth statistics of this IPL 2014 season which saw a total of 5,363 dot balls, 1,559 fours, 714 sixes and many more…

The seventh season of IPL was played across two nations – United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India. The first 20 matches (five matches per team) were scheduled in UAE and rest 40 matches were played in India. Performance of teams varied in the two legs. Mumbai Indians (MI),  who could not win any of their five matches in UAE won seven out of nine matches in India and qualified for the play offs. Kolkata Knight Riders, despite winning only two out of their first seven matches went onto lift the trophy by winning nine consecutive matches. Delhi Daredevils (DD), who won two of their five matches in UAE, could not win any of their remaining nine matches in India.

Teams like Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) did not show much change between the two legs. Kings XI Punjab went on piling up big totals throughout the tournament, but couldn’t defend the one that the amassed in the final.  Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) performance was a shocker for the fans throughout the country as they could win only three of their nine games in India and finished second-last in the points table.

The players also had some variations in their form like the teams. The man who gave IPL 7 a blasting start, Glenn Maxwell, scored 300 runs in five matches in UAE but could add only 252 runs to his tally in the 11 matches he played in India. Robin Uthappa who could cross the 25-run barrier only once in the five matches in UAE went onto become the leading run-getter of the season which included 10 consecutive 40 plus scores in India. Ravindra Jadeja, who went wicket-less in three of the five matches in UAE, was wicket-less only three times in the next 11 matches in India. Some players had an almost similar show in both nations like Sunil Narine, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Dwayne Smith, and a few more.

Here are the numbers and a statistical analysis of the IPL 2014 overall (India and UAE)
