Jacques Henry Kallis, the greatest all-rounder of the modern game bid adieu to Test cricket after the second Test against India at Durban. It ended where it all started for him, back in 1995 against England. Kallis was struggling for form throughout 2013. Before taking the field in his 166th and final Test of his career, he was averaging a meagre 17.63 in seven Tests. It was a challenge for him to finish on a high and make his swansong a memorable one.

Kallis had lot of milestones and records to aim for during his last Test. Being the complete cricketer, one can find his name in many categories. Let us have a look at some of the records Kallis broke during the Durban Test:

 — On Day Two of the second Test, i.e. December 27, 2013, off the fifth ball of 108th over, Kallis caught Ravindra Jadeja off the bowling of JP Duminy to record his 200th Catch. He became only the second player to take 200 or more catches as a non-wicketkeeper. Rahul Dravid was the first man to do so and incidentally took his 200th catch at the same venue exactly three years ago i.e. December 27, 2010.

 — The catch was also his 336th in international cricket. It put him at par with Dravid as have the third most number of catches as non-wicketkeepers in international cricket.

 — Jacques Kallis came to bat at No 4, his usual spot in the South African Test line-up.  It was his 85th innings at No 4 in Tests at home. He overtook Jayawardene (84) and is now only behind (138) for the most innings at No 4 in home Tests.

Off the fifth ball of 44th over, Kallis and AB de Villiers completed 3000 partnerships runs. De Villiers is the third batsman with whom Kallis has added 3000 or more partnership runs in Test Cricket. The other two are Hashim Amla (3923) and Gary Kirsten (3592).

 — Kallis and de Villiers completed their 100-run stand in the 65th over of the first innings.  It was Kallis’ 69th 100-run partnership in Tests. He overtook Shivnarine Chanderpaul (68) to occupy the fourth position in the list of most century partnerships.  The leaders of that table are Dravid (88), Tendulkar (86) and Ricky Ponting (85).

Off the last ball of 86th over, Kallis aggregated 28000 partnership runs i.e. South Africa have scored 28000 runs with Kallis at the crease. It is the 3third highest aggregate after Dravid (32010) and Tendulkar (31144).

Kallis added two 50-run stands in the first innings at Durban —  58 with Duminy and 83 with Dale Steyn. Thus, Kallis has been involved in 128 50-run stands in his Test career. He has also been a part of 69 100+ partnerships.

— Kallis has seen 337 dismissals at the other end while at the crease. Chanderpaul, Rahul Dravid, Tendulkar, Steve Waugh and Border are the only ones who have seen more wickets fall while at the crease.

— Kallis is the only player to add 1000+ runs with 10 different partners in Test Cricket. Next best are Chanderpaul and Ponting, who have 1000+ partnership runs with eight players each.
