For a country supposedly obsessed with individual milestones, India is surprisingly oblivious of the numerous records held by Mithali Raj. Some of these are world records, while some others are at national level. Unfortunately, Test cricket has been infrequent for India Women since 2006 (they have played only 2 since then). This means that Mithali probably does not hold as many Test records as she ought to have. On her birthday, here is a short list that will hardly do justice to her immense contribution to Indian cricket.

World records

214 by Mithali against England at Taunton in 2002 was the highest Test score at that point. She went past Karen Rolton’s 209*. Since then, only Kiran Baluch (242) has scored more in an innings.

6,190 ODI runs scored by Mithali, the most by any woman. Charlotte Edwards (5,992) is next. Of active cricketers, Stafanie Taylor (4,028) is some distance away.

51.58 ODI batting average of Mithali, the most or anyone with a 3,000-run cut-off. Rolton (48.14) is next.

0 women have scored an ODI hundred at an age younger than Mithali. She was 16 years and 205 days old when she scored 114* against Ireland at Milton Keynes in 1999.

258* highest unbeaten partnership for any wicket in Women’s ODIs, between Mithali and Reshma Gandhi, in the Ireland match mentioned above. In fact, Mithali and Reshma batted through all 50 overs after India Women batted first.
