India‘s limited-over skipper MS Dhoni on Friday shocked the world!, when he announced his retirement from international cricket, and also dropped a bomb by announcing that he has joined professional wrestling’s biggest company in the world, the leader in sports entertainment, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). The announcement came following India’s loss to the West Indies in the second semi-final of the ongoing ICC World T20 2016 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. The announcement came as a surprise to all the cricket and wrestling fans, not just in India, but globally. However, Dhoni is yet to announce his exact date of when he would make his in-ring debut. Dhoni early in the day called a press conference in the hotel, where he was staying along with the Indian team and made a major announcement. “I feel it’s the perfect time for me to make way from the Indian side, and allow an other, willing and deserving candidate to take my place as the skipper of the India’s limited-overs side. I have served enough for the nation, but I feel cricket is not the right sport for me as of now, and would try my hands in other genres of sports,” he said.

Immediately following  this quote, he made the ground breaking announcement. “My next venture in the world of sports is definitely going to be pro-wrestling, as I am joining World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). I know this comes as a shock to every right now, but the negotiations were on for quite a long time with WWE Chairman, Vincent Kennedy McMahon,” he added.

“Just prior to the Asia Cup T20 2016, I made a private trip to USA, where I met Vince at the WWE headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. He was pretty impressed by my fitness, as the very next day, I was called for a fitness test and at their official fitness center, where I passed all tests successfully, and they instantly handed me a contract, which I willingly and happily accepted,” he stated.

On being asked about when he began his training for pro-wrestling, he said, “The preparations and training were going on for an year now. Of course, it was a private one, and I kept it secret from everybody. Dalip Singh Rana, aka The Great Khali [former WWE superstar] was also one of my personal trainers, as he helped a lot in making me fit and get accustomed with the moves that I could perform in the ring. I really trained hard, and I think its quite an achievement for me to be perfectly fit for this sports, especially at this age.”

He was instantly asked on how he managed time to train despite a busy cricketing schedule, to which he calmly said, “I hit the gym everyday, without any hesitation. Although I couldn’t practice the moves while on cricketing duty, but when free, me and Khali used to sweat it out for hours in the ring to train, and a lot of credit goes to him for making sure that we work hard together to get me fit in time for the sport.”

On being asked about when he would be making his in-ring or television debut of WWE, he said, “That is something which is not in my hands. It’s entirely on the WWE Management, Vincent and his creative team. They need to create the perfect platform and story along with good scenario for me to make my debut. I am not sure if I would be directly branded to the main roster (RAW or SMACKDOWN) or be inducted in the NXT (WWE’s development territory), but whatever it is, I would happily accept it.”

He concluded by speaking on his favorite wrestlers and idols. “Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart has always been one of my all-time favourites, along with Scot Hall, aka Razor Ramon and Hulk Hogan as well. But I always consider Ric Flair as my idol. He is certainly an inspiration to every modern wrestler. He has always proved that age is never a bar if you are fit to play the sport. In that instance, I love the Undertaker as well, who still continues to wrestle, despite being so close to 50. Triple-H is one of favourite modern wrestlers, and so is Roman Reigns, due to their never-die attitude. Looking forward to work with them.”

The news surely is a ground-breaking in the history of sports, with the confirmation date of his actual debut continues to hang in balance. However, there were rumors that with WWE’s greatest annual show, Wretlemania 32 to be held at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas on Sunday, WWE has already chalked out some plans for his debut, and could directly be branded to the main roster. It is also rumored that he could play a major role in one of the two big matches of the event, either of Triple-H vs Roman Reigns (WWE World Heavyweight Championship) or Shane McMahon vs Undertaker (Hell in a Cell). Nevertheless, it can only be confirmed once he has made the debut.
