Faf du Plessis sends Parthiv Patel back early: CSK got off to a superb start in the final of IPL 2015. After winning the toss, du Plessis showed once again why he is considered one of the best fielders in world cricket. Parthiv hit the ball to mid-on and set off for what ought to have been an easy single. He reckoned without du Plessis, who ran in, dove, and threw down the stumps at the non-striker’s end. MI were one down with a run on the board in the first over. Scorecard: Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings, IPL 2015 Final at Kolkata

Lendl Simmons hammers the bowling: The early loss of Parthiv did not affect Simmons in the slightest. He took on the bowling with aplomb, smashing three sixes and eight boundaries in his composed 45-ball 68. IPL 2015 Highest wicket-taker: List of best bowlers in IPL 8

Rohit Sharma continues his love for Eden Gardens: Rohit and Eden Gardens go hand-in-hand like Kraft macaroni and particularly tasty cheese. Rohit has scores of 177 on Test debut, 264 in an ODI, 109 not out against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2012, and 98 not out against KKR in IPL 2015. This time he could only score 50, but the innings came off 26 balls, and completely sapped CSK of any momentum they might have had. IPL 2015 Most 6s and 4s: List of most dangerous batsmen in IPL 8

Revenge of the Dwaynes: Dwayne Bravo came on to bowl with MI 110 for one at the end of the 11th over. Rohit hit two boundaries before getting out off the final delivery, holing out to Ravindra Jadeja for 50. The strategic timeout followed. Dhoni, in a masterstroke, gave the next over to the other Dwayne in the side, Smith. He responded by getting Simmons out bowled. In two balls, CSK had got rid of both set batsmen. Dwayne Smith plods at the start: With a massive 203 runs to chase, Smith scored at a snail’s pace to start with. His 57 took 48 balls, and though he hit nine boundaries and a six, he played far too many dot balls at the start. He and Suresh Raina added 66, which was the best partnership of CSK’s innings; unfortunately for CSK, the runs came at a high cost. IPL 2015 most dismissals by wicketkeeper: List of best wicketkeeper in IPL 8

Suresh Raina fails to score 400 runs in a season for the first time in IPL history: Raina created unwanted history when he failed to score 400 runs in a season for the first time ever. With “only” 374 runs at 24.93, Raina was not able to replicate his past heroics for CSK. IPL 2015 Highest run-scorer: List of best batsmen in IPL 8

Mohit Sharma plays a late blinder: Mohit showed that he could probably bat higher than No. 10 by hammering an unbeaten 21 off seven balls with a four and two sixes. Sadly for CSK supporters, it was far too little, and far, far too late.

Mumbai Indians join Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders: MI became the third team to win two editions of IPL, the other two being CSK and KKR. One interesting point to be noted is that both MI’s victories have come against CSK, while one of KKR’s came against CSK as well. Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015: Complete coverage
