With certain amount of changes happening in Indian cricket, the parent cricketing board of the nation, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is not just planning an overhaul in their managerial system, but president Anurag Thakur has also hinted that the name of the BCCI could also be changed. With the news already out, there are speculations regarding the possible names that could replace the ‘BCCI’. There are few names which instantly pop up into everyone’s mind. And then there are some generic names which might be used to replace BCCI with. Ayush Gupta comes up with some possible replacement names for the BCCI. Why Kohli, Rahane shouldn’t participate in mini IPL

Indian Cricket Board (ICB): One of the most common names that instantly pops into the mind is that of Indian Cricket Board (ICB). One of the most used abbreviation among cricket administrations across the world, used by cricketing boards like Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), England Cricket Board (ECB), Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). The name was also previously used by Australia, as Australia Cricket Board (ACB), before they changed it to Cricket Australia (CA). Although the name has become stale after its repeated use, especially for India, who is known to have an all different name of the board, it would not sound bad either.

Cricket India (CI): Again, one of the most simple and short but common, name that comes to the mind. It has been used by boards like CA (Cricket Australia), Cricket South Africa (CSA), Cricket Kenya (CK), Cricket Ireland (CU) and many more. Although its an ordinary name, still a shorter version makes it sound good, rather than the acronym BCCI. And with few of the big teams already associated with the name, it would make India sound like a big and strong side. Anil Kumble takes on a jumbo challenge

India Cricket (IC): Again a common name, as it is already used by a couple of nations like Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) New Zealand Cricket (NZC). However, despite being another common name, and associated with two of the giant sides of the cricketing fraternity, it makes them look another common side in the world of cricket. Then again, there’s hardly anything in a name, if the management is strong enough.

Indian Cricket Association (ICA): The word ‘Association’ is another term that can be put in as a replacement name for the BCCI, with Indian Cricket, making it sound just fine. Although, it sounds as if the nation is an associate nation, but it is not necessarily always that. Also with the name being associated with a big team like India, the name is hardly about to take anything away from them, but only if the management continues to work hard, and the team continues to perform well. Why Kumble is ideal choice for India coach?

Indian Cricket Federation (ICF): Finally, anther word that hasn’t really been seen in cricket administration names is ‘Federation’. Probably, it might sound as one of the most uncommon names among cricket boards in the world, but Indian Cricket Federation (ICF) sounds new and different. It would certainly suit the Indian board. Although, the term federation is mostly used for the parent sports body, but in cricket, it can be used by the national board as well.

Indian Cricket Union (ICU): Another uncommon name in terms of a cricketing board. There is only one team in the entire cricketing fraternity to use the name, and it is Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU). Although, the name would come as a surprise to the cricketing world for a team like India, it certainly sounds cool. However, the term ‘Union’ mostly sounds communist, and could be a controversial name as replacement for the BCCI.

Board of Care for Cricket in India (BCCI): Last, but not the least, the acronym remains the same, but just for a change in the full-form. The full-form of BCCI would change to Board of Care for Cricket in India from Board of Control for Cricket in India. The name sounds fine, as the word care denotes the seriousness to protect the game. Cricket is a religion in India, and it is the fundamental right of the BCCI to protect the nature and quality of the game, as the name perfectly suits the parent cricketing board of the nation. The name was recommended by Thakur himself and might be one of the top choices when the talks about the change in name start.

Thus, with the names being shortlisted, it should also be reminded that regardless of the name BCCI adopts to change or they decide against it to change, it hardly matters as it is just a name and there is nothing in a name, unless of course the body’s administration structure is changed.
