In a smart business decision tagged as ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’, the official broadcasters of Indian Premier League (IPL) have taken technology further in improving experience of viewing a match. Known for their products with quality audio, Sony has launched the special ‘IPL Smart Earpiece’ to filter out crap commentary during the marquee tournament.

“We have already received complaints after the first match with the ‘behtarein commentary. Hence our think-tank thought of providing a relief to the viewers so that they can hear commentary but filter out unwanted parts. This is something we were planning since last season after two people turned deaf due to Danny Morrison’s ridiculous words and Ravi Shastri’s rooftop yelling. Hence we owed something to the mankind,” said Sharad Power, Product head of Multimedia Screen Media.

As per information made exclusively available to CricketCountry, this earpiece has multiple options in filtering commentary. When you purchase the earpiece, there are default words and phrases which automatically get blocked out while watching a match. Words and phrases like ‘Good Evening Abu Dhabi/Sharjah’, ‘Behtarein’, ‘Badhiya’, ‘This is brilliant batting’, Any phrases involving words like ‘Bullet’, Wire’ will automatically be blocked out. For example, when Shastri does the toss proceedings, your sentence will sound something like this, “Good Evening Mumbai, Are You Ready?, It’s a jam-packed stadium and the two captains are here”.

And there’s more. Once you buy the unlimited subscription for the earpiece, priced at mere Rs 199 a season, viewers can even customise the filters. “You just need to press the ‘Block’ button behind the right earpiece and record the phrases and words; then press ‘Delete’ button placed adjacent to it. The next time you watch a match with the headphones on, those parts will be automatically blocked out. And the best part is you can even delete an entire commentator from the database during the commentary. If Pommie Mbangwa and Harsha Bhogle are commentating, you can listen only Mr Bhogle’s part if the former name is deleted,” said a jubilant Power.

The viewers have already welcomed the product and the pre-order for the device has already seen around two lakh buyers. “I can’t believe Sony have taken up this Corporate Social Responsibility to make lives better. Last season during the summer season, I used to wake up with someone shouting Good Morning in my ears after watching the matches the previous evening. But this earpiece is going to improve my life a lot,” said Sachin Pavaskar, a viewer who has religiously watched every match of the IPL despite all the fixing and controversies.
