Air India has issued a frequent flier pass to the entire Sri Lankan team at the behest of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Sri Lankan team is being fed with all kinds of luxury by the Indian national airline carrier as Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) stepped in to play a series within 15 minutes after the West Indies tour was called off.
The frequent flier pass called ‘Flying Returns’ was the first frequent flier programme in India and and the most rewarding of its kind. “We hope that the Lankan team will continue to extend support to India and we would be glad to pick them up any time they wish. In fact we have also tied up with Sinhalese Airlines so that the Lankan team can accrue mileage points by flying even with our partner,” said an airline official.
As part of this honour, the Lankan team will enjoy some special privileges unlike some of the other regular fliers. The airline officials said that they are yet to issue an official release because the BCCI is still looking at the kind of freebies that can be added to their privileges.
Our sources reveal that the Lankans will be specially offered India-Sri Lanka match highlights of the encounters in the last five-six years. We have also learnt that the Lankans will not be showed matches where Virat Kohli ran riot against them. Apart from that, the airline has also promised to shower special discount on Business Class whenever the team will tour India for matches. This extends to the Lankan A team as well.
The BCCI is also contemplating about awarding a similar status to Russell Arnold and Ranjit Fernando who often accompany as complimentary gifts with the Lankan team.
