West Indies Tri-Nation series 2016: West Indies marks out of 10

West Indies lost out to Australia in the final of the West Indies Tri-Nation Series 2016 by 58 runs.

West Indies continued their phenomenal run in 2016, after lifting the ICC World Twenty20 (WT20) title in India they reached the final of the Tri-Nation Series 2016. Being pitted up against the might of Australia and South Africa is no easy task, West Indies started off on the right foot winning their first 2 out of 3 games in the series. West Indies as a side looked composed and sharp, it relied on individual brilliance to propel them into the final after humiliating South Africa in a do-or-die affair. In the final against Australia they precipitated to the power and genius of Matthew Wade and Josh Hazlewood. In a series which re-established how meliorated the West Indies side, Vishal Mehra has  a look into how does every player in the side panned out. Marlon Samuels: Samuels: Easily one of the star for West Indies in the series. After having a splendid WT20, Samuels left no stone unturned to show how skillful and naive he is with the bat. Samuels accounted for 258 runs for West Indies in 7 matches with a best score of 125. His best was against Australia a team which he truly loves to go against, which was evident in the 5th match of Tri-Nation Series where he scored a match changing 87-ball 92 motivated by constant sledging hurled at him. Rating: 9/10

Sunil Narine: After being discarded for the whole of last year and spending most of the time remodeling his bowling action Narine rose to the occasion and spearheaded the bowling attack. Narine in the 7 matches picked up 12 wickets at an economy of 4.08. Narine castled South Africa in the very first match of the Tri-Nation series 2016 with a 6-wicket haul.  His spell of 3 for 28 against South Africa in a virtual semi-final again able West Indies an easy passage to the final. Rating: 9/10

Kieron Pollard: Pollard who had a fairly decent outing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 did not exactly set fire to the rain but was present for his team in times of distress. Pollard to his name had 205 runs in 7 matches, also picked up 5 wickets in his kitty. Pollard was crucial to the teams win against Australia in the 5th match and also instrumental getting his to a match winning score against South Africa via a quick-fire 61 in match No.9.  Rating: 8/10

Darren Bravo:  Touted as the next Brian Lara, Darren Bravo has always been overshadowed by older brother Dwayne Bravo, but this time the younger one showed is value. Bravo in the seven matches accumulated 222 runs with a best of 102 against South Africa in the virtual semi-final. Before this innings Bravo was making 30-40’s but this time he came fourth and helped his team to victory. Rating: 7/10

Johnson Charles: Johnson Charles who was the star with the bat against India in the semi-final clash in the WT20, showed sparks of brilliance again. His innings of 45 helped West Indies get near to Australia’s total in the final only to end up at the losing side. CHarles was consistent in providing starts to his team making 20-40’s before giving his wicket away. In all Charles scored 199 runs in 7 matches. Rating: 7/10

Denesh Ramdin: Denesh Ramdin who is in the team for his batting skills finally showcased his prowess and played some good knocks in the series. He garnered 197 runs in 7 matches, sadly for him his top scores came in losing cause against Australia. Ramdin interestingly scored at a higher average than his ODI average. Rating: 6/10

Carlos Brathwaite: West Indies hero in the WT20 final in India, Carlos Brathwaite was touted to be the next big thing in international cricket coming out of the Carribean nation. Brathwaite had  a decent outing in the IPL was now looking to perform in front of his home nation turned out to be a no show with the bat. In the 7 matches he played Brathwaite just scored 86 runs. Brathwaite was second highest wicket taker with the ball for West Indies picking up 9 wickets in as many matches. Rating: 5/10

Jason Holder: Skipper Jason Holder who has expressed desires to see West Indies win the trophy almost ended up achieving it. Holder as a captain was influential and made accurate chances and played the match according to the situation. Holder as a player could not do much managed just 105 runs in 7 matches and picked up as many as 7 wickets in as many matches. Given that he is leading the side more was expected out of him. Rating: 5/10

Sulieman Benn: Sulieman Benn had the perfect partner in Sunil Narine to have easy wickets in his kitty. With Narine applying pressure it would have been quite an unnerving task to grab victims. Benn had a super time with the ball in the WT20. Benn managed to pick just 3 wickets in the seven games he played for West Indies. Rating: 3/10

Andre Fletcher: West Indies opening batsmen Andre Fletcher was replacing one of world crickets most feared opener in Chris Gayle had high hopes of performing well in front of their home country. Fletcher apart from a few 20’s could not manage to do much with the bat. In all he added 89 runs in all the 7 matches that West Indies featured in. Rating: 3/10
