Thisara Perera became the fourth cricketer to do the 1,000 run-50 wicket double in the history of T20 Internationals, after Shahid Afridi (Thisara’s captain yesterday), Dwayne Bravo, and Shakib Al Hasan. Thisara achieved this during the charity match between ICC World XI and West Indies at Lord’s on May 31, a match given T20 International status by ICC. He had taken his 50th wicket in March during the Nidahas Trophy, when he caught Tamim Iqbal off his own bowling. He was the fourth Sri Lankan to reach the milestone, after Lasith Malinga (90), Nuwan Kulasekara (66), and Ajantha Mendis (66).

Thisara had finished the Nidahas Trophy 41 runs short of the 1,000-run mark. He reached the landmark with a six over long-off off Kesrick Williams. Five Sri Lankans have scored 1,000 T20I runs: Tillakaratne Dilshan (1,889, the fourth-highest in history), Mahela Jayawardene (1,493), Kumar Sangakkara (1,382), Angelo Mathews (1,055), and Kusal Perera (1,020). Thisara fell for 61, which means he is currently tied with Kusal.

Not all Thisara’s runs have come for Sri Lanka. In fact, he has a surprisingly better record for ICC World XI, for whom he had played 4 matches, 3 of them in Pakistan in 2017.

Two others can make it to the list in near future: Mohammad Nabi (961 runs, 61 wickets) needs 39 runs, while Mohammad Hafeez (1,658, 49) needs 1 wicket, and his action has been cleared.

Shane Watson retired with 1,462 runs and 48 wickets. Fans have been insisting on a comeback after his IPL 2018 final blitzkrieg, but Watson does not seem interested.
