Before, we discuss what Virat Kohli has done to this boring season of IPL and T20 cricket it’s important to know first things first. Yes, Virat Kohli is not just in the form of his life, he is reigning supreme in world cricket at the moment and that with some distance. He has no competitor in sight and continues to leave the followers of the game in astonishment. His knock of 113 off 50 at Bengaluru against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) when Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced them in must-win tie was one of numerous evidences he has given over the last few years as to why he is the world’s best batsman, and by miles. Kohli came into the IPL 2016 season in splendid form. Mind here, he might have been exceptional as he stood-out among other Indian cricketers in the World T20. But he has been absolutely world-class or as Rob Palmar once said for Argentine Leo Messi, when the Barcelona football genius scored a curving free-kick against Real Madrid, “That is Messi Class, That’s above world class, Jerry”. The stylish batsman has been in a class of his own. ALSO READ: Virat Kohli quashes comparison with peers; hitting 4 IPL centuries in a season is superlative
The number of runs so far in the IPL, the orange cap on his head, the number of centuries he has scored and the number of records he has broken might be exemplary. But what is worth observing is the balance, technique and simplicity with which he has gone about doing his business. Kohli has shown no attempt to play extra-ordinary cricketing shots and never looked like he is willing to slog. But again, he has played to his strengths and made sure that he plays the ball on the merit. The passion, commitment and the hunger for success that the 27-year-old has shown is just out of this world. ALSO READ: Twitter hails Virat Kohli’s fourth hundred in IPL 9 at Bengaluru
Kohli played with several stitches on his left hand against KXIP and despite the pain scored a century in match which was reduced to just 15 overs due to rain. Not just that, he could have went off the field after piling up more than 200 runs on the board but he did not. He instead took an important catch too. This just proves what the man is all about.
His 4 centuries and 5 half-centuries have no wonder made the crowd overjoyed, made Twitter go nuts, commentators getting overawed, just proving yet against that the world is witnessing a cricketing legend at absolute peak of his powers. The IPL season this time around has been a bit boring from the last few years as matches have been one-sided, injuries have ruled out players and on some days rain has played spoilsport. But Kohli’s performance this season has certainly been one of the brightest side to it. He might be in the form of his life, but he has also brought back life into this season of the IPL.
