Yograj Singh will take inspiration from his son Yuvraj’s victory over cancer

Yograj Singh now faces a similar test and is the path to recovery from throat cancer. This time, the father may take inspiration from his son Yuvraj Singh’s struggle and ultimate victory writes Nishad Pai Vaidya.

Yograj Singh, the former India fast-bowler and the father of Yuvraj Singh, has undergone a surgery to get rid of throat cancer. Yograj had a bout of this disease and was advised to go under the knife to get rid of the disease. This comes after his son, Yuvraj had suffered from a rare germ-cell cancer in 2012, which was ultimately cured and he returned to the field of play soon after. It is understood that Yograj has been advised rest and is in the United States of America.

Yograj played a huge role in the development of Yuvraj as a cricketer. It was a father’s dream to see his son become a world class cricketer and achieve the heights of success he couldn’t. There are famous stories of Yograj being brutal on a young Yuvraj, making him play the game in tough conditions. A young Yuvraj would train hard with his father pushing him for every bit of success. However, Yuvraj’s parents separated and he has been with his mother thereafter.

Back in 2012, Yuvraj inspired a nation when he won the battle against cancer. His father beamed with pride as his son won this big battle. A year before, he had won the world Cup with a memorable all-round performance. But, this victory looked bigger. It was after all, a battle against the bigger odds off the field of play. Many times, Yograj could only watch from the sidelines and could do nothing with his son in pain. However, the fighter that Yuvraj is, he triumphed.

Yograj now faced a similar test and seems to be on the path to recovery. This time, the father may take inspiration from his son’s struggle and ultimate victory. It should be noted that in April, Yuvraj had come under heavy fire for his labored innings in the ICC World T20 final and Yograj had come in support of him. Yuvraj bounced back to great form in the IPL thereafter. If you have a son like Yuvraj, there certainly is something in that blood. Yograj too is a fighter.
