Asian Games 2014: Disappointing show by Indian canoe team

India had a disappointing outing as canoe obstacle slalom competitors failed to impress in the 17th Asian Games at the Hanam Misari Canoe/Kayak Center on Wednesday. In the women’s section, Ganeshvri Dhurwe and Champa Mourya finished fifth and seventh in the kayak single repechage 1.

Ganeshvri clocked one minute and 28.03 seconds while Champa took a minute and 29.39 seconds to exit the competition. Namita Chandel failed to qualify for the quarter-finals after she finished sixth in the canoe single repechage 1 with a timing of one minute and 33.37 seconds.

Earlier, Namita finished 10th in the heat 1 to qualify for the repechage round. Meanwhile, India’s Kuldeep Singh Keer failed to finish the race in the men’s kayak single qualification heat 1. In the canoe single last 16 competition, India’s Prince Parmar, who finished 15th in heat 1 earlier, will take on Uzbekistan Alibek Temirgaliev later in the day.
