Angry crowd halts play during India-West Indies first ODI

Amid the excitement at the Barabati Stadium, an unfortunate incident marred proceedings during India's innings as play was stopped for about five minutes in the first one-dayer against the West Indies.

With India struggling at 47 for three in their chase of 212, a few frustrated ones in the jampacked crowd vented their ire at West Indies fielder Kieron Pollard by throwing missiles.

Pollard was seen complaining to the umpire, pointing to the stands to the left of the giant scoreboard, which prompted officials to stop play after the third ball of the seventh over with India at 50 for three.

Policemen were pressed into action and an announcement was made, requesting the crowd to behave.

This is a blot for a venue where the crowd never had a history of unruly behaviour.

There was also some trouble with the sightscreen on the pavillion end as Sehwag was seen repeatedly pointing at the sightscreen. (PTI)
