Australia captain Michael Clarke won the toss and elected to bat first against Sri Lanka in the first Test match at Hobart on Friday.
Australia lost the recently concluded three-match Test series against South Africa 1-0 and with it lost an opportunity to regain the number one position in Test Rankings.
