On near-perfect batting strips, Vijay Manjrekar XI's Jay Bista and Akash Parkar and Vijay Merchant XI's Kumar Joshi scored centuries on the first day of the third and final round robin league matches of the 26th Sportstar Trophy MCA under 19 tournament.
Opener Bista was the quickest to reach the three-figure mark against Khandu Rangnekar XI, scoring 102 off 82 balls with 14 fours and one six, while his teammate Parkar batted for nearly five hours to make 141 off 226 balls with 18 fours and two sixes.
Bista and Parkar put on 70 runs for the second wicket in 14.2 overs at the Parsee Gymkhana ground.
After Bista's exit, Parkar and Shreyas Iyer raised 72 for the third wicket and thereafter Parkar and Ramanpreet Singh (80 batting) were involved in a massive partnership of 175 for the fourth wicket in 42.2 overs.
Consistent partnerships resulted in Manjrekar XI post 400 plus runs in a single day.
At the P J Hindu Gymkhana, Kumar Joshi scored a confident and solid 111 off 132 balls with 20 boundaries for Vijay Merchant XI against Dattu Phadkar XI.
He and opening partner Sachin Yadav raised 103 in 24.4 overs. Joshi also raised 94 for the second wicket with Pratik Prabhu.
