Cheteshwar Pujara continues to move from strength to strength. On Day Three of the ongoing Test against Australia at Hyderabad, he became the second fastest Indian to amass 1000 Test runs, which he achieved in 18 innings. The milestone was achieved when Pujara was on 187 not out — marching towards his second double century in Test cricket.
The fastest Indian to 1000 Test runs is Vinod Kambli as it took him 14 innings to achieve the feat. However, if one takes into account the number of matches played, Pujara is the fastest — tied with Sunil Gavaskar — taking 11 matches to score those runs. It reflects the kind of consistency with which he has played since his comeback into the Test side. Over the years, he has shown the ability to score big and India would be delighted to see him replicate the same at the highest level.
Here is the list of the fastest Indians to 1000 Test runs.
