Australian fast bowler Peter Siddle has said that dismissing batting legend Sachin Tendulkar twice in the first Test was a special achievement for him.
Siddle was quoted in BCCI.com as saying, “It’s always a joy to get the wicket and to get Sachin in both innings [was special]. It’s exciting and hopefully a good [sign] for things to come in the series.”
The bowler however said that he never devised a special plan for the master batsman.
He said,” It’s just the same as [for] anyone. You bowl in the good areas long enough and get pressure on, you get the wicket. [You need to] stick to your game, bowl a patient line consistently and obviously it’s working for us.”
Siddle also credited fellow bowlers for bowling consistently throughout the match. He said,” Yes, it has been [like that in the] last five Test matches; we have been consistent. […] I think that’s a good confidence [-boost] for the bowlers.
“I think the consistency with which we are bowling is building the pressure and that’s what’s strewing the wickets around.”
Siddle feels the win in the first Test against India to some extent erased the memories of Hobart Test where Australian was beaten by New Zealand.
He said,” Yes, it does clean things up a little bit. It does give us a chance. [The] happiness and excitement is back in the team. We were disappointed about Hobart but a lot of things were done right down there.
“[Some of the problem areas are] resolved now. We are moving forward and I think it’s good momentum to start the season this way.”
The fast bowler said he expects a good wicket for the second Test at Sydney. He said, “The last couple of years it’s been a good cricket wicket. There’s been a bit of grass for the bowlers early on and it’s a batters [strip]; it’s a bit similar to this wicket. The Sydney wicket will play the same. In the past we have seen a very similar cricket wicket out there.”
