India succeeded in dismissing England’s two middle-order batsmen but Joe Root’s gritty half-century helped resurrect visitors.
Ravichandran Ashwin gave the first breakthrough as he removed Matt Prior (57), who looked in good touch. Ishant followed soon with another dismissal of Tim Bresnan reducing England to 242 for 7.
Root compiled a gritty half-century to resurrect the visitors. He scored unbeaten 65 runs at the close of the first session.
Piyush Chawla took four wickets while pacer Ishant Sharma took tree wickets conceding 49 runs.
