England suffered a major blow on Monday when their pace spearhead Tim Bresnan was ruled out of the Pakistan Test series due to an elbow injury.

Bresnan underwent surgery on his elbow last month hoping that the problem will subside by the time he will travel to Dubai.

The right-arm pacer had complained of soreness during England’s training session and missed the tour game against ICC Combined Associate and Affiliate XI.

Sports Mole reported that no replacement has been called for Bresnant, and Graham Onions, who was on the trip as a reserve, will become the a full member of the travelling party.

Yorkshire paceman Bresnan felt pain in his elbow during England's tour of India and was sent for an operation to remove a bone fragment.

"The Yorkshire and England pace bowler Tim Bresnan underwent an operation on Wednesday to remove a bone fragment from the back of his elbow," said an ECB statement.

"His symptoms started during the England one-day squad's recent tour of India and have failed to settle with rest.
