Lasith Malinga, who not only delivered with the ball for Mumbai Indians but also showed his different side of the game scoring crucial runs for his team, said he was pleased the way he batted in the Champions League T20.
“I always enjoy my batting. Even today I hit a couple of sixes and scored 16 runs. I'm very happy with the way my batting has helped the team in the tournament,” said Malinga.
The lethal-pacer praised Harbhajan Singh’s leadership and revealed he enjoyed playing under the spinner’s captaincy.
“Bhajji is without doubt a very good captain but a captain can only handle the overall game. He can only set the fields and decide who he wants to give the ball to. At the end of the day it's the individual who has to go and perform.”
Malinga looked elated after winning the Man of the Series and said he was pleased that the team came out as winners.
“It feels great. We played the final in IPL 2010 but couldn't go all the way. Today we had another opportunity and this time we proved that we are a very good team. The entire team, the support staff and the management, everyone is really elated and so am I.”
Malinga insisted that though Mumbai Indians were affected by several injuries, the team never missed the big names.
“It doesn't matter that we don't have the big names. We had 15 players in our squad and we picked our best XI from that in every game. We did miss Sachin on the field but off it he was always with us. Once we went out on the field, we just tried to play to our strengths without being scared of the strength of our opposition.”
