India gained complete command over England as bowlers left the defending champions reeling at 54 for six in 10 overs, in chase of 171 in their ICC World T20 match at Colombo on Sunday.
Irfan Pathan rocked England early on, getting rid of the in-form Luke Wright and Alex Hales to provide India the upperhand.
Pathan bowled Hales on the final delivery of the opening over of the innings, to put India on top.
The left-arm seamer struck once again in his second over to dismissed Wright, who could manage only six off four deliveries.
Harbhajan Singh struck for India in the sixth over to leave England reeling at 39 for three, when he bowled Eoin Morgan for two.
Chawla too chipped in with two wickets, getting rid of England opener Craig Kieswetter for 35, and Jonny Bairstow for one.
England need a further 117 runs to win from 60 balls.
