New Delhi: May 1, 2012
Left-handed explosive batsman David Warner will join the Delhi Daredevils squad on May 5, the Australian cricketer informed on Tuesday.
Following the successful Caribbean tour where Australia defeated West Indies 2-0, some of the Australian and West Indies cricketers headed to India to represent their respective franchises in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
Warner wrote on his Twitter page, “Hey guys I will be in India on the 5th, had to come home first. Will see you all very soon. Go the daredevils!!!!!”
A few other Australian cricketers including skipper Michael Clarke have joined their respective franchises.
Shane Watson (Rajasthan Royals), Clarke (Pune Warriors India), Michael Hussey and Ben Hilfenhaus (Chennai Super Kings) and Ryan Harris (Kings XI Punjab) arrived in India on April 30.
Delhi will feel reinforced following Warner’s addition after their in-form batsman Kevin Pietersen left for England to play against West Indies, in the upcoming Test series.
Pietersen has been in red hot form this season for the Delhi Daredevils and Warner would be expected to carry the burden of the English batsman’s absence.
Warner has scored 769 runs at an average of 25.63 in 31 matches and a strike rate of 128.38 in IPL.
