Sahara-owned Pune Warriors India (PWI) are contemplating to move out of Kanpur which was initially planned as their home ground.
Before the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction PWI had decided to fix Kanpur for their home matches as they failed to resolve their conflict with Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA). During the auction held on 3rd February in Chennai, the PWI management had requested Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to move out of Kanpur.
"The nearest airport is in Lucknow and it’s two hours away from Kanpur. So, it will be difficult even for the TV crew," a source within the PWI management was quoted by The Times of India.
Other venues such as Nagpur, Ahemadabad, Rajkot and Navi Mumbai are being discussed as alternate venue to host the home matches.
PWI had played IPL 4 at Dr. DY Pati stadium in Navi Mumbai. They shifted to Pune the following season after the Subroto Roy Sahara stadium was constructed.
