Bhopal: Feb 14, 2012

The Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will take a call on how to go about with the tournament in case the Sahara Pune Warriors decide to opt out of it, BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale said on Tuesday.

"In case Sahara's Pune Warrior team opts out of IPL, then the Governing Council would take a call on the issue," he said on the sidelines of a prize-distribution event of a cricket tournament where he was the chief guest.

The IPL will be reduced to an eight-team event if the Pune Warriors don't take part in it. The Sahara-owned franchise and the disbanded Kochi Tuskers Kerala were the two new teams in last year's fourth season of the T20 League.

To a query on Sahara Group's decision to stop sponsoring the Indian team and the search for a replacement, he said nothing has been finalised.

Asked about the possibility of resumption of cricketing ties with Pakistan, the Board official played safe and said that it was upto the governments of the two countries to take a call. "It depends on them," he added.

On the issue of constructing an international level cricket stadium in Bhopal, he said that if the state government made available land (to Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association) at suitable rates, then it could be constructed. (PTI)
