Statistical highlights on the third day of the first Test between India and West Indies at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.

 

# Ravichandran Ashwin's magnificent figures (6/47) are the third best in an innings by a bowler on debut for India, next only to Narendra Hirwani(8/61 + 8/75) against West Indies at Chennai in 1987-88.

 

# Abid Ali (6/55 against Australia at Adelaide in December 1967) and Dilip Doshi (6/103 against Australia at Chennai in September 1979) are the only two other bowlers to have bagged six wickets in an innings for India on debut.

 

# Ashwin's match figures of 9 for 128 are the second best by a bowler on Test debut for India, next only to Narendra Hirwani's splendid 16/136 against West Indies at Chennai in January 1988.

 

# Umesh Yadav (2/36) has registered his best bowling performance in Tests.

 

# Shivnarine Chanderpaul has taken his tally to 1987 runs at an average of 68.51 in 22 games, needing 13 runs to complete 2,000 runs against India in Tests.

 

# In five Tests in India, Chanderpaul has aggregated 440 runs at an average of 62.85, including two centuries and one fifty.

 

# In seven Tests played by him this year, Chanderpaul has averaged 59.50 - 595 runs, including two hundreds and one fifty - the most by a West Indian in 2011.

 

# Marlon Samuels has recorded his sixth duck in Tests - his second against India.

 

# Rahul Dravid enjoys an impressive record against the West Indies in Tests this year - 832 runs (ave.59.42) in nine Tests, including four centuries and two fifties.

 

# The top three run-scorers this year are: Ian Bell (950), Alastair Cook (927) and Kumar Sangakkara (923).

 

 # Virender Sehwag (55 & 55) has recorded a half-century in each innings against West Indies for the first time in a Test match.

 

# Sehwag has accomplished the aforesaid feat five times in Tests - twice against Australia and once each against New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka.

 

# Sehwag's instance of fifty-plus in both innings of a Test match is the 30th when an Indian batsman has recorded 50 or more in each innings of a Test match against the West Indies. VVS Laxman was the last Indian batsman to record the feat - 85 & 87 at Bridgetown in June 2011.

 

# Sehwag has recorded his 29th Test fifty - his fourth against the West Indies. He has managed 753 runs at an average of 53.78 against the West Indies, including two hundreds and four fifties.

 

# Dravid has managed 1743 runs against the West Indies at an average of 64.55 in 21 Tests, including four centuries and twelve fifties.

 

# Sachin Tendulkar became the first player to appear in 300 Test innings, creating history by becoming the first batsman to accomplish the feat of reaching 15,000 runs in Test Cricket.
