Tarot reader Shruti Chopra looks into her cards to give CricketCountry.com readers exclusive insights into what lies ahead in the IPL matches. In the below piece, she dwells into the Chennai Super Kings vs Kings XI Punjab game - the first IPL match on Saturday.
The Chennai Super Kings are being tempted by the Devil - their perception of this being an easy opportunity to earn two points. They need to be careful of getting too complacent, but luckily the Hermit shows up and they will become wiser to the situation. They will need to strengthen their bowling rather than relying too heavily on their batsman.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is going to be a very strong batsman; commanding and carrying the ability to change around an uncomfortable situation. As a captain he will be the Strength of the team. He will bring about smart changes.
Suresh Raina is looking to build himself steadily, but may end up with an average day.
Ravindra Jadeja will need to be a bit more realistic with what he can push himself to achieve. He will be active, strong and like the Two of Wands will be able to give some direction to his innings.
Shadab Jakati may struggle and will need to direct his aggression better.
Dwayne Bravo will be well planned and well directed. He will be an important player for the Super Kings, especially since he will have a good day.
Francois du Plessis will be a bit disappointed by his performance today. The Eight of Cups and Swords shows that he will find it difficult to score today.
The Kings XI are balanced like the Temperance between practicality and following instincts - they will manage to do well by doing this. They have a strong team management that is inculcating a strong belief system in the team. They will play well through some strong partnerships and more so through the entire team's contribution. With the Sun coming up, it shows them being a concern for the opposition.
David Hussey, as a batsman, will have the potential to steer the innings into a strong and commanding direction. In his captaincy, he will be like the Seven of Wands – always wanting to stay on top of the situation and having a holistic perspective in implementing his strategies.
Shaun Marsh holds extreme potential to command this game. The High Priestess graces him with showing off his talents to push the team's cause towards success.
Nitin Saini although carefree in his innings, but it will be the best way for him to get good batting results.
Azhar Mahmood will work hard to make runs and will be miserly in giving it away with his bowling. He will play a wise game and will do well.
Piyush Chawla will be energetic, which he will control well and put to good use.
Praveen Kumar, like the Hierophant, will need to keep himself balanced, as the Tower card does warn of him losing his way.
Parvinder Awana has done his homework well coming into this game. He like the Queen of Swords and the Knight of Pentacles will be well planned and steady in implementing his responsibilities.
Who has the advantage?
Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be a very strong captain, but will lack all round support from his team. For Punjab it will all be about the entire team coming together and giving it their best shot. It's advantage Kings XI Punjab.
