Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar will be accorded with the status of Legend at the Legends' Club. Madhav Apte, President of the club, announced this on the occasion of Vijay Merchant’s 101st birth anniversary meeting held at the Cricket Club of India on Saturday.
The Legend’s Club has been celebrating the memory of three great Indian cricketers – Vijay Merchant, Vijay Hazare and Vinoo Mankad.
“Another name has been unanimously added by the committee comprising Bapu Nadkarni, Nari Contractor, Ajit Wadekar and myself. And this time it’s a name not starting with the letter “V” – its Sunil Gavaskar,” Apte said.
“We have few more names under consideration. The names of Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar, along with a few others will also be considered at the “appropriate time,” he added.
The Legends Club is the brainchild of the late Rajsingh Dungarpur, the former Board of Control for Cricket in India president.
