Openers Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed put Pakistan in control of their Asia Cup 2012 match against India, putting up an unbeaten 150–run stand for the first wicket from 25 overs at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday.
Hafeez and Jamshed showed aggressive intent right from the start and added more to Indian bowlers’ woes, who faced lot of criticism after their surprising loss to Bangladesh in the previous game.
Jamshed set the tone early when he cracked three boundaries off Praveen Kumar in the third over of the game.
Hafeez clobbered nine boundaries to reach an unbeaten 76 off 82 balls, whereas Jamshed struck eight boundaries to reach 69 not out off 68 balls.
Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni tried eight bowlers in the first 25 overs, but none among them was able to contain the Pakistan openers.
Earlier, Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and elected to bat.
Brief Scores: Pakistan 150 for no loss in 25 overs (Mohammad Hafeez 76*, Nasir Jamshed 69*) vs India
