Somerset failed to chase the enormous target set by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as they lost by in the Champions League match at Bengaluru.
Earlier asked to bat first, RCB got to a usual fiery start by the openers Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan. Both the openers were fortunate to get away easily as Somerset dropped two catches in first five overs.
But Gayle’s powerful batting stormed the Bangalore franchise to a massive total of 206 runs in a must-win match for the Vettori-led team.
Despite losing the important wicket of Craig Kieswetter, Somerset’s hopes were kept alive by Peter Trego who scored a spirited half-century but could not help the team to get past the mammoth target.
Brief Score: RCB 206 for 6 in 20 overs (Chris Gayle 86; Virat Kohli 33, Steve Kirby 2 for 23) beat Somerset 155 for 6 ( Peter Trego 58, Craig Kieswetter 26; Daniel Vettori 2 for 25) by 51 runs.
