India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Sunday slammed his maiden double century in Test cricket to put his side in a commanding position against Australia in the first Test at Chennai.
Dhoni took a single off Nathan Lyon to complete his double ton in 231 balls, which was studded with 21 boundaries and five sixes.
During this innings, Dhoni broke the international record of most runs in an innings by a wicketkeeper-captain, previously held by Alec Stewart (164).
Dhoni also went passed former cricketer Sourav Ganguly as the top run-getter as India captain, and now trails only to Sunil Gavaskar and Mohammad Azharuddin.
Dhoni’s knock helped India to go past 100-run lead in the first innings of the Chennai Test against the Australian side.
