Mahela Jayawardene became the 9th batsman to amass over 10,000 runs in Test cricket. He achieved the landmark in the second Test against South Africa at Kingsmead in Durban on Monday.
In the first Test of the series, Jayawardene was run-out while attempting to reach his landmark. Coming into the ongoing match, his career tally stood at 9,999 runs. He reached the landmark by pushing for a single off the bowling of Dale Steyn.
Jayawardene is the first Sri Lankan to score more than 10,000 Test runs and is the fifth-fastest to achieve the feat in terms of number of innings.
