Mahela Jayawardene stepped down as Sri Lanka captain in Twenty20 format after his side's 36-run loss to the West Indies in the ICC World T20 final at Colombo on Sunday.
The ICC informed on Twitter, "Mahela Jayawardena steps down from T20 captaincy."
West Indies clinched the ICC World Twenty20 trophy with a comfortable 36-run victory over Sri Lanka, riding on Marlon Samuels' brilliant counter-attacking knock to win a major global title after over three decades.
