Australian skipper Michael Clarke struck a sparkling triple hundred for the first time in his career on the third day of the second Test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday.
Resuming at the overnight score of 251, Clarke achieved his highest score at his ground.
Clarke became the sixth Australian batsman to reach the magical 300 run mark, after Sir Donald Bradman (twice), Bob Simpson, Bob Cowper, Mark Taylor and Matthew Hayden.
He surpassed Sir Donald Bradman's record of highest score by an Australian captain. He achieved the milestone in 432 deliveries hitting 37 boundaries and a six to achieve this feat. Bradman's had scored 270 runs against England in 1937.
Mathew Hayden (380) holds the record for the highest Test score by an Australian, while West Indies legend Brian Lara (400*) has the record for highest score in Test cricket by any batsman.
Clarke went past the VVS Laxman’s score of 281 not out for the highest individual score in Australia-India Test series.
