Left-arm pacer Mitchell Johnson on Sunday became the latest Australian cricketer to join the list of injured, due to which he missed the second One-Day International against Sri Lanka at Adelaide.
A spokeswoman of Cricket Australia told Fox Sports that Johnson was sidelined due to soreness in rib and side.
This blow to the Australian side came after lanky pacer Mitchell Starc pulled out of the second ODI due to calf muscle soreness.
South Australian quick Kane Richardson was called up as cover for Sunday's ODI against Sri Lanka.
The left-arm pacer took 1-25 off six overs in the first ODI at Melbourne, but his status for the remainder of the five-match ODI series remains uncertain.
The Australians are already without several fast bowlers due to injury, including Ben Hilfenhaus and Pat Cummins, although James Pattinson and Josh Hazlewood have returned from being sidelined.
However, the CA spokeswoman said Johnson is expected to be available for the third ODI at Brisbane on Friday.
