Former Australian leg-spinner Stuart MacGill believes Nathan Lyon should recapture his form from his first Test series against Sri Lanka, to be a hit against India in India.
"His debut series was in Sri Lanka.I spoke to Nathan about it, and all I reckon he needs to do is watch the YouTube video of his first series. He bowled fantastically well. In his first Test match (he) got five wickets, he got a wicket with his first ball. (He bowled with) great pace, great line – he can bowl," as reported by Fox Sports.
Lyon has been going through a lean patch and bowled poorly against South Africa and Sri Lanka this summer with his lack of wickets leaving the selectors in a fix. His spot in the playing XI for Australia’s first Test against India starting on Friday is currently under serious threat.
But, according to MacGill, it is just a case of Lyon sticking to what works best for him, especially in sub-continent conditions. He can get back to his best by emulating his form from the 2011 series in Sri Lanka, where he took a five-wicket haul in his first innings, including that of Kumar Sangakkara with his opening delivery and looked comfortable on foreign conditions.
