Orissa Cricket Association is all set to organise Orissa Premier League (OPL) T20 cricket matches in line with the ongoing IPL tournament, officials said on Sunday. "The OCA Council in its monthly meeting today okayed the proposal and the tournament is scheduled to begin in the second week of May," said OCA secretary Asirbad Behera.
There would be 10 teams up for sale and to be owned by franchisees which could be corporate houses, individuals or district associations, he said, adding that the base price of each team would be Rs 4 lakh.
The OPL teams would be located in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Berhampur, Keonjhar, Angul, Jharsuguda, Puri and Kendrapara.
"The owners of these teams would be allowed to purchase at least 20 players, 10 of whom shall be from these venues and adjacent areas," Behera said.
OCA has prepared a list of 80 cricketers whose base prices would be announced soon and they would be listed for auction, he said, adding that each franchisee would have a limit of Rs six lakh in its purse to purchase the players.
