Punjab Cricket Association's joint secretary G S Walia on Tuesday collapsed in his office chair, barely minutes after seeing off Sachin Tendulkar at the gate.
Walia, who was the Indian cricket team's media manager during the recent tour of Australia, along with PCA officials including CEO Brig (retd) G S Sandhu, presented a cake to Tendulkar on his 39th birthday on Tuesday.
Sandhu told PTI that Walia had been feeling hungry as he went to office without having his meal.
"After seeing off Tendulkar, Walia went to his office on the second floor, picked up the phone to order some food from the canteen. Even as he was talking over the phone, he started breathing heavily and suddenly turned pale," he said.
The reporters present at the stadium witnessed Walia being driven to a nearby private hospital.
"We hope he gets well soon," Sandhu said.
Meanwhile, Tendulkar along with his Mumbai Indians teammates had a practice session at the PCA.
They are here to face Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday.
The PCA had a small function to wish the batting legend on his birthday.
PCA Secretary M P Pandove told PTI that Walia had suffered a cardiac attack and was in the ICU of Fortis Hospital. His condition is stated to be critical.
"The doctors are closely monitoring his condition and trying to stabilise his blood pressure," Pandove said.
Brig Sandhu said Walia had not been keeping well for some time and was on drugs for some ailment.
