An unbeaten 126–run stand for the second wicket between Vineet Saxena and Hrishikesh Kanitkar consolidated Rajasthan’s position in the Ranji Trophy final against Tamil Nadu, as they reached for one at tea on the second day in Chennai.
On a flat track at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Rajasthan batsmen remained in control of the proceedings for the entire second session, with skipper Kanitkar bringing up his half-century and Saxena nearing his double-hundred.
Saxena, resuming his innings at 142 after lunch, got runs easily as he moved on to 186 not out off 483 balls, which included 23 boundaries and a six.
Kanitkar’s knock of unbeaten 67 included seven boundaries.
Earlier in the first session, Rajasthan crawled to 272 for one at lunch on the second day of the Ranji Trophy final.
The defending champions lost only one wicket in the opening session of the day in form of Aakash Chopra, who missed out on a century by six runs as he was dismissed for 94.
Chopra’s marathon innings came to an end when he was trapped in front of the wickets by Aushik Srinivas. His 94 came off 307 balls, hitting 10 boundaries.
Chopra added 236 runs for the first wicket with Vineet Saxena, who was batting on an unbeaten 142 at lunch.
