Cricket Board's Chief Administrative Officer and Tournament Director of the last World Cup, Prof. Ratnakar Shetty, has joined the race to become one of the two vice presidents of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) at its elections set for July 15.
Joining Shetty in the quest to become MCA's vice president as a candidate supported by the Sharad Pawar-Bal Mahaddalkar group is Ashish Shelar.
Dr P V Shetty and Nitin Dalal are the panel's choices for contesting the two joint secretaries' posts while Ravi Sawant is its chosen candidate for the treasurer's chair.
Though Pawar decided not to contest for retaining his post as the president of the MCA yesterday as he's ineligible to do so following a change in his permanent residency status from Mumbai to Baramati, the panel today refrained from naming any candidate to contest for this coveted post.
"We decided on our panel. It (decision about presidential candidate) would happen before the filing of the nominations ends on July 8," Prof. Shetty told PTI.
Among the panel candidates for securing places in the 11-member managing committee is former Mumbai medium pacer Pradeep Kasliwal.
This group of candidates is set to be opposed by the panel supporting former India skipper and ex-chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar who is aiming to become the first cricketer to lead the MCA after the two-decade-long rule of politicians Manohar Joshi and Pawar.
