Mumbai Indians (MI) have managed to beat Deccan Chargers (DC) by five wickets in a thrilling contest as Rohit Sharma scored a heroic fifty to guide his team to chase the target of 139 runs.
Defending 139 runs, Dale Steyn rocked the Mumbai Indians batting as he removed T Suman in his first over followed by wicket of his fellow countryman Richard Levi for just 3 runs.
In the middle order, Rohit Sharma along with Ambati Rayudu consolidated Mumbai’s innings with 48-run partnership – the highest of the match.
After Rayudu’s exit, Rohit continued to belt the Deccan bowlers. Kieron Pollard too joined the party but was sent back to pavilion by Daniel Christian after scoring 24 runs.
But a last-ball six by Rohit helped Mumbai Indians chase the target in a thrilling match. The right-handed batsman scored 73 runs in the run-chase.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians, courtesy of Munaf Patel and Lasith Malinga’s wily bowling have managed to restrict Deccan Chargers to a moderate score of 138 runs) in the ninth Indian Premier League (IPL) 2012 match in Visakhapatnam.
Munaf was clearly the stand-out bowler for the visiting team with four wickets conceding just 20 runs. Malinga grabbed three wickets conceding 27 runs.
