Sanath Jayasuriya urged selectors to ignore the tried and tested failures and include Thilina Kandamby, in the Sri Lanka One Day International (ODI) squad.
Kandamby has so far played 38 ODIs for the Islanders, having scored 870 runs at an average of 30 runs per innings, with the help of five half-centuries. His stats need some improvement but there is no question about the player’s ability.
“I feel a person like Thilina Kandamby should be in this ODI squad. I am not against any player, but someone like Chamara Kapugedera, he has been given many chances but he has not proved himself, and yet he keeps getting chances,” the former captain said.
“From that point of view, I am very disappointed with the selectors. There are players who have been performing, and they are not being given a chance. The selectors have to be responsible, they should pick the right players,” Jayasuriya was quoted saying by bettor.com.
